The Lillian Eichenauer Pediatric Residential Program provides a variety of residential options for
children ages 5-21. Most of our beautiful, spacious and universally-designed homes are located on the
Harris campus; others are located in several neighboring communities. Specially designed for their
occupants, these homes take into consideration - among other things - tactile features, rounded
corners, railings and planting of aromatic herbs and flowers in the entranceways.
Children have either a private bedroom or a double room. The Center encourages and expects
families to bring items from home that will sustain the powerful emotional connection to parents and
siblings. Family members are encouraged to visit as often as they wish, especially for parties, dances,
and a variety of special events.
In all of our homes, children are challenged to develop increased independence and to improve
their interpersonal and social skills as they learn and grow. Learning daily self-care and like skills is an
essential part of our residential program. In addition to developing eating, grooming and dressing
skills, we teach household living skills including those needed for laundry, cooking and cleaning.
As per the 2002 Outcomes Management Annual Report, 90% of families with children living at The Center for
Discovery are very satisfied with their overall residential experience.
Overall, 91% of The Center for Discovery’s stakeholders are very satisfied with the scope and quality of
services provided.
